I had a presistent call on my phone as i was sleepn awhile ago i got up and answered. The caller sounded so worried that he sent me a message and i didnt acknowledge reciept considerin the importance attached to the mail. I read through n decided to google on my nokia phone but didnt see the threat he emphatically tried to convey. thanks to everone that has explained this thing here. I can now go back to sleep in peace. The world strives on information but a generation that has refused to be informed is already doomed. cosmic rays are emitted by stars. i.e bodie that are undergoing nuclear reactions that is fusion (as occurs in our sun) or fission (as occurs in nuclear reactors) . mars is neither. it is a planet that just reflects sunlight. it cannot emit cosmic radiation. with regards to these rays the earths atmospher is capable of taking care of them so no need to worry.

It started around 12:30 am and it’s around 5:00 am now and people are still outside on the streets. Meanwhile this is false because there has been no earthquake in Ghana!

I had the same message lastnight that there is going to be some cosmic radiation from mars to earth so our phones should be better off. I think I need more explanation about how the rumour came about.
From the information I have gathered, cosmic ray particles are constantly reaching the earth and so why this alarm? although their emission is higher now since the sun’s activity is currently low, the fact still stands clear that mars cannot emit cosmic rays, however it does not have the atmosphere that is enough to adequately interfere with the speeding particles so the effect on mars could be high, finally mars would not deflect its cosmic rays to us and even if it does, we are already dealing with more direct ones so reflected ones will be less difficult to deal with.

folks when ever you receive an sms like this, i think the best thing to do is for us to verify the information via the respective sources’ website. like in this case, simply logging on to bbc.com. would have gone a long way to help us figure out facts for ourselves and not allow our heads being used by some uninformed set of folks.

Let me tell you some thing about cosmic rays btw! They are emitted from stars which have their own light. Mars reflect sun’s light (although some cosmic rays too). Almost 90% of all the incoming cosmic ray particles are simple protons, with nearly 10% being helium nuclei (alpha particles), and slightly under 1% are heavier elements, electrons (beta particles), or gamma ray photons.
Anyway, there is no such harm imho! So keep using your cell phones! these cellular companies need some money to survive!
